Camp Fire Does The Puyallup
In 1900, the Puyallup Valley community joined
together to create a "Valley Fair." The Fair was a
place to exhibit animals of all kinds, and it also became an area to
show the crops which flourished in the valley's rich land. Then, as
well as now, people came from near and far to visit the Fair. Camp
Fire members have shared in this tradition for many decades by
making and baking items to enter in the Fair. Some clubs also put on
demonstrations at the Fair, or hold a club meeting there.
Each year the Fair provides a
Premium List
describing eight Divisions for entries (e.g., Culinary Arts, Handcrafts, Creative Writing, Art)
and details separate classes of items that can be submitted for each
Division. Entries are displayed at the Fair and judged. Ribbons
are awarded for each Class and Division.
Taking part in the Fair allows
youth members a chance to show their skills, support their
community, promote the Camp Fire program, and have a lot of fun.
